Cookies 4 Santa

This fortnight we'd like to see holiday cards based on any aspect of this gorgeous inspiration photo that appeals to you, whether it's the colors, the shapes, the idea of leaving a note and cookies for the man in red... in short, you can use as many (or as few) elements as you find inspiring!

Here's what we made this week:

Stephanie says, "When I saw the plate of cookies, I knew I wanted to do a teal & red snowman card ... so I pulled out my vintage Frosty from Artistic Outpost and my new Lawn Fawn Peacock ink  (love that color) and pulled this card together using this week's sketch from The Paper Players.  I added some sparkle & shine with teal glitter paper and sequins."

Lauren says, "When I first saw the photo, I worried I might not have enough relevant stash items to be able to construct anything interesting, but as it turned out, I almost had too many cool things-- not that I'm complaining, lol! In the end, I focused on the colors and the cookies; added in some "secondary" ideas from the picture (white woodgrain and snowflakes); and mixed in a few extras (trees, a santa hat) to flesh out my little cluster of elements."

Now it's your turn to take whatever aspect(s) of the photo you like best and turn them into a gorgeous holiday card! Link your creations here by 6pm (EST) Wednesday, August 12th. Keyword for galleries and Flickr is JB:15:16.

Spirits of Christmas Past

We're still creating cards with a vintage or retro vibe ... so break out your vintage style or actual vintage images (or both) for your designs ... and remember, there is an awesome prize up for grabs from Lauren's store Just Enough Stuff.

Here's what we created this week:

Stephanie says, "I decided to go retro this week ... creating cards using images and colors that reminded me of my childhood from October Afternoon's Eggnog Collection.  My childhood Christmases also featured sequin covered ornaments and stockings, so I added some of those to embellish my design."

Lauren says, "I'm still at full-on vintage because, frankly, I have what my friend Leslie would call a "S.A.B.L.E." situation (which stands for, "supplies available beyond life expectancy";and is, alas, sad, but true in my case!)  The vintage postcard is from my official postcard collection, which is why I've scanned and printed a copy of it, but the sheet music and doily I've just used; the other supplies are stash that is not quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite old enough to be called "vintage" but still pretty old, lol. The layout is courtesy of Sweet Sunday Sketch #278.

An Old-Fashioned Christmas

This fortnight, we're asking you to create a holiday card with a vintage or retro vibe ... either by using new products that are vintage-in-style, or by incorporating actual vintage items into your design (or heck, really go for it and use both).

And we're very excited to have our prompt sponsored by Lauren's Etsy shop, Just Enough Stuff. Lauren has been collecting and crafting with vintage goodies for years, and started her shop to share some of her fun vintage supplies and creations with other crafters. So yes, that means there's going to be a prize and you'll want to make sure you join our fun! (See details below.)

Meanwhile, here's what we created:

Lauren says, "It's no secret that I love vintage ingredients, especially at Christmas time! For this card I scanned and re-sized a beautiful (but much too big) piece of especially appropriate vintage sheet music, topped it with some lovely old lace, and finished off with a little floral stack that incorporates a super-funky retro button. A few embellishments and a bit of machine stitching round the whole thing off!"

Stephanie says, "I tried to go with a vintage style for my first card incorporating soft muted tones, gauzy ribbon, fabric textured stamping and distressing.  I also threw in a touch of vintage by cutting my sentiment from a piece of vintage sheet music.  Stamps & Die Cuts are from Impression Obsession, colors are The Paper Players and layout is Retro Sketches."

So how about that prize we mentioned?

One lucky, randomly-chosen cardmaker who links up with us this fortnight will receive a Deluxe Christmas Ephemera Pack and a $10 gift certificate to Lauren's Etsy shop, Just Enough Stuff. Why not check out her themed collage packs, eclectic decks of cards, chipboard alphabets, and holiday journal kits so you'll know just what to pick if you're our lucky winner?

Link your creations right here by 6pm (EST) on Wednesday, July 29th. Keyword for galleries and Flickr is JB:15:15.

Going for the... SILVER!

You guys made soooooo many awesome cards that featured silver or bells or both, and we loved seeing every single one of them! Here are a few that really got our attention:

...made a bold statement in silver by embossing multiple layers of aluminum foil to get this beautiful etched metal effect!

...paired traditional Christmas colors-- plus a pop of bright blue-- with this uber-cute digital image of bells!

...hit a high note with some beautiful glittery silver bells on a perfectly lovely, perfectly CAS card!

We'll be back at midnight with some good old-fashioned fun for all our Christmas-card-making friends! ♥

Sterling Chimes

We're still making cards that feature silver... or bells... or both! Won't you join us between now and next Wednesday evening? (See the "Silver Belles" post below for full details.) Meanwhile, here's what we made this week:

Stephanie says, "This week I went with silver.  I stamped Paper Smooches Fresh Snow in Versamark and clear embossed before spraying with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain Spray.  Sentiment is from Brushstroke Christmas from Essentials by Ellen.  I punched the small snowflake from a scrap of the stain-sprayed paper."

Lauren says, "As it happens, I went with the bells this week... and no... Stephanie and I never confer, it's just a coincidence we each went with different parts of the prompt! I built my card around a fun vintage-style Jenni Bowlin journal card, which helped me choose the colors; the current Cardabilities sketch (#126) helped me with the layout. Easy, peasy!"

Silver Belles?

Ok, technically, the name of this prompt is "Silver Bells" --in tribute to one of our all-time favorite holiday songs-- but after four and a half years hosting our lovely holiday cardmaking blog, that "e" just seems to jump onto the end of "bells" all by itself! You've probably already guessed that we'd like to see cards that contain silver OR bells OR both; so without further ado, here's what we made this week:

Stephanie says, "I went all out glitter this week ... because what a better time to sparkle than the holidays.  Silver glitter letters, glitter papers and glitter ribbon ... finished off with a row of die cut silver bells."

Lauren says, "I go all-out glitter lots of weeks... because i'm just that kind of gal, lol! But I heartily concur with my lovely blogging partner that the holidays are an even better-than-usual excuse for making things as sparkly as possible. And since I kept finding really tasty silver "ingredients" in my stash, I just kept piling them onto my card!" :)

Remember, you don't need to make a card with both silver and bells; one or the other is sufficient to meet the requirement. Of course if you long to combine the two... and maybe throw some glitter into the mix... we're not even going to try to talk you out of it! :) Link up here by 6pm (EST) on Wednesday, July 15th.
